Walls Construction deploys heavy-duty Raimondi cranes for major project

Walls Construction is using some serious lifting power for its latest project in Dublin. The company has brought in six Raimondi MRT573 flat-top tower cranes—supplied by Irish Cranes & Lifting—to help build a major mixed-use development in Rathborne.

These MRT573 cranes are the most powerful in Raimondi’s fleet. They’ll be on the site for around two years, supporting the construction of six buildings that will rise up to 14 storeys and include about 700 homes and commercial units.

“These cranes were selected for their top performance and heavy load capacity,” said Robert Coffey, Director General of Irish Cranes. “This partnership with Walls Construction continues our role in shaping Ireland’s large-scale building projects.”

Each of the six cranes comes with a jib length ranging from 40 to 50 metres, and tip loads between 12.4 and 16.5 tonnes. With a freestanding height of 72 metres, they’re equipped to handle heavy lifting at speed—up to 109 metres per minute, thanks to a powerful 110kW hoist motor and a 1,000-metre drum capacity.

These features make them ideal for projects involving precast concrete, which demands precise and powerful lifting.

Because the site is close to homes and a railway line, safety is a big focus. The cranes are fitted with advanced anti-collision and zoning systems to avoid accidents. In some cases, they’ve been de-rated—operating at 75% of their full capacity—to meet strict safety guidelines without compromising performance.

The MRT573 model has already proven itself in major projects since its launch in 2019. It also helped pave the way for Raimondi’s latest crane, the T577, which launched in early 2025. That new model offers even more in terms of load handling, flexibility, and remote support to cut down on delays.
