Completing the lifts in just a single day, the 500-tonne capacity Liebherr crane lifted two segments into place that weighed a combined total of 45 tonnes. In the video below, the LTM 1500-8.1’s self-assembly feature is on show, erecting its own counterweights and Y-guying system. Additionally, the crane possesses a maximum hoist height of 148m, of which its telescopic boom constitutes 84m.

The lifts were part of the biggest track closures to date for Cross River Rail that allowed a “huge amount of critical work” to take place, according to a press release from the infrastructure project, with Cross River Rail Delivery Authority CEO Graeme Newton stating the works could not be completed safely with trains still operating.

“The track closures have allowed crews to undertake an incredible amount of work safely and efficiently in the rail corridor,” he said.

Also included in the works was the removal of 850m of “balloon loop” at Mayne Yard stabling facility that was replaced by a new shunt neck to allow trains to switch lines.

Borger Cranes is an East Coast crane hire company, operating across various renewable and infrastructure projects in NSW and Queensland. Watch the video of the lifts below.
