Two Raimondi MRT189 cranes power new beachfront development

Two Raimondi MRT189 flat-top tower cranes have played a key role in the construction of a premium residential development on a prime beachfront site in Nouméa, the capital of New Caledonia.

The project features two 15-storey mid-rise towers, offering high-end residential units and commercial spaces. The cranes were supplied by CESP, a well-known regional rental fleet company with 30 Raimondi heavy lifting machines in its fleet. CESP sold the two MRT189 cranes to GTNC, the project contractor.

As a longstanding partner of GP Mat International, the official Raimondi Cranes dealer in France, CESP managed the installation of the cranes in 2023 through its in-house service division, KHEOPS Equipment. This team handled the assembly, commissioning, and ongoing maintenance of the equipment.

Both cranes, with a maximum lifting capacity of 10 tonnes, were deployed with a jib length of 42.5 metres. Initially set at heights of 34.5 metres and 48 metres, one crane was later climbed to a final height of 60 metres as the project advanced. An external climbing system was fitted to the MRT189 cranes to ensure seamless operations and alignment with the site’s vertical progress.

“Due to the tight project schedule and the specific jobsite requirements, we opted for high-performing machines that are also easy to assemble, install, and maintain,” said Michel Willemot, General Director of KHEOPS Equipment.

The MRT189 cranes, ideal for demanding urban projects, were equipped with a 45kW hoisting winch capable of lifting at speeds up to 136 metres per minute, with a drum capacity of 660 metres. “This feature was essential to support the fast-paced lifting cycles required by the project,” Willemot added.

With construction nearing completion, one of the cranes has already been dismantled by the KHEOPS operations team, and the second crane is scheduled for dismantling in the coming weeks.
