A pair of Tadano AC 5.220 all terrains belonging to two different companies was recently used to tandem lift a 120 tonne boiler onto a lowbed trailer in Griesheim Industrial Park, Germany.

Crane services companies Auto-Service Safar and Hack Schwerlastservice both contributed a AC 5.220-1s to the project, the first step in eventually shipping the boiler to Türkiye.

Lifting the 120 tonne boiler, with a length of 11.6 metres and a diameter of 3.5m, high enough so the lowbed trailer could be moved underneath, proved a challenge for both companies involved.

Both set up with a counterweight of 71 tonnes and a boom length of 21.56m, the two cranes carefully lifted the heavy boiler to a height of one metre in perfect synchronisation. After this, a team from transport company Max Goll moved a twelve-axle semi-trailer with a four-axle tractor underneath the boiler and the two Tadano cranes lowered their load onto the semi-trailer with precision.

“We started by optimally positioning both cranes after measuring the required radius of 13 metres and then rigging the load,” said Auto-Service Safar GmbH Heavy Load and Crane Manager Detlef Precht, who also operated one of the Tadano AC 5.220-1s during the lift.

Detelf said the AC 5.220-1 ‘really delivers on all its promises,’ and added, “this particular crane is characterised above all by how enormously powerful it is, which means that we have reserves available when we need them – and it proved all that once again during this lift.”

“The AC 5.220-1 has already proven itself in our fleet for a long time and is an essential part of our machine park. We are very satisfied with this machine and also appreciate the many years of successful partnership with Tadano,” added Hendrik Eich, owner of Auto-Service Safar GmbH.

The boiler was lifted for construction firm Colak GmbH, and Managing Director Abuzer Colak had nothing but good feedback for both Auto-Service Safar GmbH and Hack Schwerlastservice GmbH.

“They carried out the job with utmost professionalism and without any issues within the scheduled timeframe. Everything just worked: The team, their teamwork, and the machines that were used,” Abuzer said.
