Tadano rough terrain crane joins India’s growing fertiliser company to boosts operations

Matix Fertilisers and Chemicals Limited, one of India’s fastest-growing fertiliser companies, has expanded its heavy lifting capabilities by adding a Tadano GR-800EX rough terrain crane to its fleet.

The new crane, delivered earlier this year, will primarily support operations at Matix’s urea production plant in West Bengal.

The company, a major provider of urea-based agricultural products, previously relied on a combination of forklifts, aerial work platforms, and cranes for its heavy lifting tasks. Recognising the need for enhanced lifting power and reliability, Matix turned to Tadano for a solution that met their specifications while offering competitive pricing.

“We were initially attracted to Tadano in part because the cranes are suitable to our specifications and are offered for a competitive price,” said Debasish Saha, Senior Manager at Matix. He worked closely with Tadano India Senior Manager Prasad Bhong to evaluate options and determine the best model for their needs.

The GR-800EX, boasting an 80-tonne lifting capacity and a 5-section full-power boom that extends from 12 to 47 metres, stood out to Matix. “Tadano products are reliable and rugged,” Debasish noted. “In addition, their capabilities, manoeuvrability, speed, and safety features are all excellent.”

Designed for diverse road conditions, the crane operates effectively on uneven terrain and in narrow spaces. It features the Tadano AML-C system, which monitors outrigger extension and automatically adjusts rated lifting capacities for enhanced safety. Eco Mode promotes energy efficiency and reduces emissions, while the Hello-Net system allows for mobile data monitoring. Its compact 2-axle carrier ensures superior manoeuvrability on job sites.

As part of their acquisition process, Matix conducted a factory acceptance test, sending Debasish to Tadano’s Shido Plant in Japan. He was impressed with the manufacturing process, quality control, and customer service. “We observed that Tadano is offering several features which we had not even thought of having,” he said. “We learnt about them and understand the importance of these features.”

While acknowledging that local cranes are priced lower, Debasish emphasised the superior quality and performance of Tadano cranes. “In today’s working conditions, we need the machine to meet our expectations, have a strong lifting performance, and be of good quality while ensuring adequate safety measures. We found all these in Tadano cranes.”

He also praised Tadano’s after-sales support and training, stating, “My overall impression of Tadano as a company is excellent. This is evident from proper 5S being maintained at manufacturing level, the company’s commitment to deliver quality product at competitive price, and adhering to all its commitments.”

Debasish concluded, “I think Tadano Rough Terrain Cranes are truly next generation cranes in terms of technology, performance, safety, ease of operation and, on top of that, low cost of operation and maintenance.”

Tadano encourages customers worldwide to visit their facilities in Japan, where plant tours and meetings with the crane designers and builders can be arranged through local sales representatives or authorised dealers.
