Skyjack, the access equipment division of Linamar Corporation, has just rolled out a range of hybrid electric rough terrain articulated booms. The new models – the SJ45 AJHE+ and SJ60 AJHE+ – blend electric and diesel power to offer more flexibility and lower emissions, without impacting performance.
These new machines come with three operating modes – electric, automatic, and manual – giving operators control over how power is used and charged. Whether plugged into a pow-er source or running off the onboard diesel engine, users can keep the boom going on job sites with or without charging infrastructure.
Here’s a quick look at what they offer:
• Working heights of 15.7 metre (m) and 20.1m for the SJ45 AJHE+ and SJ60 AJHE+ respec-tively.
• Indoor and outdoor capabilities, thanks to quiet operation and reduced emissions.
• Skyjack’s EASYDRIVE system, which keeps machine operation intuitive.
The hybrid system includes a 24.8 horsepower (hp) diesel engine that not only drives the machine when needed but also recharges the battery. It’s compatible with Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) – a fossil-free fuel that can cut greenhouse gas emissions by more than 90 per cent compared to traditional diesel.
Charging options are straightforward:
• Plug it in for a full charge via a smart onboard charger.
• Use the automatic mode, which starts the engine when battery drops to 35 per cent and stops when it hits 85 per cent.
• Or go manual, where the operator chooses when to charge.
This smart system helps extend battery life by preventing full discharges and allows up to 85 per cent charge in under 2.5 hours when using the onboard engine.
Built for tough terrain
Despite their green credentials, these booms are built to handle rough job sites:
• Electric four-wheel drive, with oscillating steer axles and differentials to handle tough ground.
• AC electric traction and pump motors deliver strong torque and a smoother ride.
• Drivable at full height, with a max platform load of 454 kilogram (kg).
The models also run quietly at under 70 A-weighted decibels (dBA), making them suitable for urban or noise-sensitive areas.
Rental-ready
Skyjack is targeting the rental market and sustainability-conscious contractors with these hybrids. They have assigned an ‘ECO mark’ on their products that highlights the following:
• 62 per cent less fuel use
• 16 per cent lighter weight
• 85 per cent recyclable materials
• Optional biodegradable hydraulic oil
• White noise alarms
• Telematics support
Mark Trowman, Product Development Manager EAME, Skyjack UK said, “The SJ45 AJHE+ and SJ60 AJHE+ have been designed to meet true job site performance expectations, whether it be navigating various rough terrain conditions or lifting the platform.”
