Seven Liebherr cranes are playing a key role in the construction of Parque Ventas, a major urban development project in Madrid that will create a new green and pedestrian zone above the city’s M-30 motorway.
Spanish crane company Grúas Aguilar has deployed six Liebherr LTM mobile cranes and one Liebherr MK 140-5.1 mobile construction crane to complete a series of complex heavy-lift operations on the project.
The development will create a green space of more than 16,000 square metres, stretching almost 200 metres across the M-30. Once completed in spring 2027, it will improve connections between Madrid’s Salamanca and Ciudad Lineal districts.
The largest lifting tasks were carried out by a Liebherr LTM 1650-8.1 and an LTM 1750-9.1. The cranes installed concrete girders weighing up to 184 tonnes using telescopic booms extended to 40 metres and working at radii of up to 20 metres.
Additional lifting work was completed by an LTM 1500-8.1 and another LTM 1650-8.1, which installed girders weighing around 120 tonnes. An LTM 1095-5.1 was used to erect 25-tonne pillars and position them accurately, while a second LTM 1750-9.1 installed girders weighing 130 tonnes.
The Liebherr MK 140-5.1 mobile construction crane was responsible for installing and laying floor slabs.
A major challenge on the project was the requirement to carry out all lifting work at night to minimise disruption to traffic on the busy motorway.
Operations started at 10pm each night and had to be completed by 6am so the M-30 could reopen before morning traffic.

Based in Arganda del Rey, about 20 kilometres south-east of Madrid, Grúas Aguilar was founded in 1968 and is now one of the leading crane companies on the Iberian Peninsula. The company operates more than 200 mobile cranes, with more than 90 per cent of its fleet made up of Liebherr machines.
The Parque Ventas project is expected to improve the quality of life for residents in the surrounding area by creating new green spaces and strengthening connections between neighbouring districts.
