Sarens has announced the addition of a new giant to its super-heavy lift fleet—the SGC-170. Touted as one of the most powerful land-based cranes in the world, this massive machine has the ability to change heavy lifting projects worldwide.
Boasting a 170,000 tonne-metre load moment and a staggering 3,200-tonne lifting capacity, the SGC-170 sits under Sarens’ record-setting SGC-250, which held the title of the largest land-based crane globally for six years.
Besides raw power, the SGC-170 gets some big updates in crane technology. Designed entirely in-house by Sarens‘ engineering team, it is fully electric and zero-emissions, combining sustainability with unmatched lifting strength. The crane’s modular electric drivetrain ensures maximum performance with minimal energy consumption, a testament to Sarens’ commitment to innovation.
“Ten years ago, plugging a crane like this into the grid would’ve been unthinkable,” said Matthias, Head of Design at Sarens. “Now, we’ve built a machine that’s not only more efficient and sustainable but one that’s ready for the most demanding jobs, anywhere in the world.”
The SGC-170 has been engineered for adaptability and efficiency. Key features include:
- Faster Mobilisation: Fewer connections and larger components allow quicker assembly.
- Transportability: A reinforced frame enables relocation in under a week.
- Unparalleled Lifting Height: The main boom with jib can lift 1,300 tonnes at over 200 metres.
- Custom Configuration: Its modular design can be tailored to meet specific client needs.
Designed by the same team behind Sarens’ most iconic cranes, the SGC-170 embodies decades of field-tested innovation. Built in 2025 and born for the future, it stands as a symbol of Sarens’ dedication to rising to the world’s heaviest lifting challenges.
