Sarens starts Belgium’s party season

Sarens has helped to construct a range of popular festivals in Belgium.

Global heavy lifting specialist, Sarens, has provided its services to help erect stages for three of Belgium’s biggest music festivals of the summer.

Supplying its machinery on a rental basis, the company helped construct stages for the Gent Jazz 2023 festival, Tomorrowland 2023, and Rock Werchter 2023. Collectively, the establishment of the festivals’ infrastructure required the use of cranes ranging from its 40-tonne Liebherr through to its 250-tonne telescopic boom mobile crane and a range of technical expertise from the engineered-heavy lifting solutions company.

For Gent Jazz, Sarens worked with Louis Huys Special Transport to help set up before festivities again, winning the contract because of the “strength” of its proposed solution for installing the “complex” festival structure, according to a press release. To complete the works, Sarens deployed its LTM1150 as the main crane for the job and two smaller AC50 cranes as auxiliaries to successfully lift pre-assembled frames that weighed up to six tonnes and measured up to 30m. Among the main challenges faced was the lack of room for heavy transport and cranes, meaning tight operating conditions were abound when setting everything up and lifting the loads.

At Tomorrowland, the world’s biggest techno festival, Sarens returned to help establish the festival’s stages after it “excelled” last year. Contracted by Gosselin Logistics, Sarens utilised an array of machines ranging from 40-tonne capacity through to 250-tonne capacity. Ultimately, the establishment of the festival’s stages, where Sarens was required to lift objects such as swimming pools and other stage elements, took six weeks with 10 crew members. Dismantling of the stage took four weeks, with cranes and crew staying onsite until the end of the festival.

Lastly, for Rock Werchter, Sarens Belgium sent a fleet of three telescopic cranes – its 50-tonne, 60-tonne, and 70-tonne machines – to aid its client, Live Nation Festivals NV. Taking just over an hour to drive the cranes from its Wolvertem headquarters to the festival site, the global heavy-lifting solutions company took just under half an hour to configure the machines and put them to use.
