Engineered heavy lifting specialist Sarens has performed a series of heavy lifts for the reconstruction of the Mažekiai Oil Refinery in Lithuania.
The reconstruction project in Lithuania centres around energy independence, economic growth, and innovation in the region. Focusing on sustainability according to the latest environmental standards, Key Account Manager for Sarens Balticum Artūras Dadurka labelled the project as a “big step forward” for Lithuania and the surrounding region.
“It will be the first refinery of its kind in Europe and one of the biggest projects in the history of independent Lithuania,” he said. “Sarens Balticum is thrilled to contribute significantly to its implementation as the main lifting equipment provider.”
In order to complete the lifts, Sarens deployed nine machines to ensure the process could be conducted in a safe and orderly manner. Liebherr’s LTM 1500-8.1 and a Tadano all-terrain ATF-400G-6 were among the first machines to be utilised to install engineering devices last month, working in tandem to handle loads surpassing 100 tonnes.
The Liebherr LTM 1500-8.1, a crane no longer manufactured that was the most successful crane in its class, possesses a main boom length of 50m and a maximum tip height of 148m. Capable of lifting its MRC of 500 tonnes at a 2.7m radius, the eight-axle machine can lift 17 tonnes at the tip of its main boom. The Tadano ATF-400G-6, on the other hand, with a maximum rated capacity of 400 tonnes at a radius of 2.7m, features a main boom length of 60m that can reach heights of up to 122m with a boom-plus-jib extension. Capable of operating at a maximum radius of 58m with its main boom, the ATF-400G-6 can lift at a radius of 86m with its boom and jib extension combination.
Also aiding Sarens in facilitating these heavy lifts were three LTM 1060-3.1 cranes, an LTM 1055, one LTF 1045, a Terex AC 100/4L, and an LTM 1090.
The Mažekiai Oil Refinery project is the latest in a series of lifts by Sarens on sustainable and renewable energy projects.
