Sarens has officially named its newest super-heavy lift crane the SGC-170, christened “Big Matthias” during a modest ceremony held over the weekend.
The crane is named in honour of Matthias Sarens, the company’s R&D manager, whose work has played a key role in the development of Sarens’ family of giant cranes. The naming reflects his contribution as well as the company’s values of family spirit, engineering innovation, and ambition.
With a 170,000 tonne-metre load moment and a lifting capacity of 3,200 tonnes, the SGC-170 is among the most powerful land-based cranes in the world, second only to Sarens’ SGC-250. It is also fully electric and zero-emissions, designed to meet the demands of future heavy-lift projects.
The SGC-170 is the fifth super-heavy lift crane in the Sarens fleet, combining size and strength with sustainability.
