Victorian-based Clark Cranes has deployed two Raimondi LRH174 hydraulic luffing jib cranes for the Parliament of Victoria’s restoration in Melbourne, Australia.
The tower cranes were rented out to project contractors O’Connor & Sons and Harris HMC to complete refurbishment works that have been under for the past decade. The two luffing cranes were installed at different phases by the Clark Cranes commissioning team – the first in 2019 and the second in 2020 – with Managing Director of the crane hire company Michael Clark speaking of the “honour” of being involved in the Parliament of Victoria’s restoration.
“With the building in use daily for government operations, it was essential to offer a solution that would minimise the chances of site disruptions,” he said. “Installing both cranes on a ballast base helped avoid unnecessary excavation that would have been required if the machines were installed on permanent footings.”
The LRH174s were erected on a ballast base with a final configuration of 36m mast and maximum radius of 50m. Holding a 10-tonne capacity, the luffing-jib tower cranes possess a tip load of 2.25 tonnes and can lift at a maximum speed of 190m/min thanks to the machines’ 45kW hoisting gear.
According to the Raimondi, the LRH174 possesses an ease of installation that aids efficient and smooth onsite operations. This is down to the crane’s jib, hoisting winch, and rope reeving all being able to be performed at ground level. Furthermore, the LRH174 holds a small out of service boom of only 10m, making it a suitable option for narrow job sites such as the Parliament of Victoria’s restoration.
“We are currently experiencing high demand for luffing jib cranes of this type,” said Clark, “where there are oversailing issues and the 10m out of services radius plays a significant role during the decision-stage.”
Both of Clark Cranes’ Raimondi LRH174s will be dismantled in the upcoming months, with the machines already set for reallocation across two other jobsites at the beginning of 2024.
