Raimondi LR273 crane deployed for major high-rise project

Avenue Building Corporation has deployed a Raimondi LR273 luffing jib crane for a high-rise development in Downtown Toronto in Canada. This project highlights Avenue’s growing role in shaping the city’s skyline, with involvement in notable projects like Canada’s first Nobu Hotel and Residences and North America’s largest heritage retrofit.

“Avenue Building Corporation continues to play a pivotal role in shaping Toronto’s skyline,” said Jim Patullo, President of Avenue. “For this project, we deployed one of the seven Raimondi LR273 cranes available in our fleet to support Capital Development, the project’s developer.”

The company is also using a second Raimondi LR273 crane at Olive Residences, another high-rise in Toronto, which has now reached completion. This crane will soon be dismantled, marking the successful conclusion of that phase.

Installed in late 2023, the Raimondi LR273 crane operates free-standing on a ground floor staging slab. It currently stands at 54 metres with a 50-metre jib, offering a tip load of 5.34 tonne. Equipped with an 86kW (kilowatt) hoisting gear, the crane can lift at speeds up to 204 metres per minute and has a drum capacity of 980 metres.

“We opted for purchasing this specific model not only for its excellent load capacity and precision but also for its adaptability to challenging urban environments,” Patullo explained. “The LR273 had to be erected in extremely tight confines, with the staging slab positioned above parking levels that were being excavated simultaneously.”

Mauro Masetti, Sales Director at Raimondi Cranes, said, “Avenue Building Corporation, a longstanding partner of Raimondi Cranes, continues to demonstrate its dedication to excellence by participating in some of the city’s most significant projects, reinforcing its reputation as a key player in shaping Toronto’s evolving vertical development.”

The 69-story mixed-use development, known as 8 Elm, blends heritage with modernity by preserving the historic facade of the James Fleming Building while introducing contemporary architectural elements. Located in the heart of Toronto, 8 Elm will feature over 800 residential units and numerous retail spaces.
