A fleet of nine Potain tower cranes is helping to build the new Nemanjin Grad mixed-use development on the outskirts of Belgrade, Serbia.
The cranes were supplied by K.I.G.O., Potain’s local dealer in Serbia and a division of Ferokov, the regional Potain dealer across several Balkan countries.
Nemanjin Grad will include residential, business and community spaces across seven buildings, located a short distance from Belgrade’s city centre.
The crane fleet includes three Potain MDT 219 topless cranes, four MDT 178 topless cranes, one MDT 128 topless crane and a Potain HUP 40-30 self-erecting crane.
The cranes are lifting steel sections and placing concrete during the structural phase of construction. Once the structures are complete, they will be used for façade installation, roofing work and other finishing activities before the project is completed later this year.
Sebastian David, General Manager at K.I.G.O., said the company selected Potain topless cranes to improve efficiency on the multi-building site.
“With multiple structures to build, we wanted to use cranes that could complete the project on time with the greatest efficiency. That’s why choosing Potain topless cranes made sense. In many instances, there are two or more cranes with overlapping work areas, so the cranes’ more compact working areas save time and money. Also, with Potain frequency converter technology combined with the CCS, we have fast and accurate load handling,” said Sebastian David.
The nine cranes are installed with hook heights ranging from 34.9m to 61.8m and jib lengths between 35m and 65m.
K.I.G.O. is responsible for installing the cranes, carrying out routine maintenance and providing ongoing technical support throughout the project. The company is also supported by Manitowoc’s regional customer support headquarters in Dardilly, France.
Planning is already underway for the removal of the cranes once construction is complete, with limited space expected to be available on site.
“There will be limited space available for tower crane dismantling once construction is finished, but we planned well in advance to ensure our mobile cranes and trucks can complete the work. Potain topless cranes are designed for easy and fast assembly and disassembly, which will also help smooth the process,” said Sebastian David.
