New Zealand’s first ever Liebherr mobile construction crane has been delivered to a crane operator in Auckland.
Hi Lift Cranes acquired an Mk 88 Plus mobile construction crane at a celebration at the Ellerslie Event Centre.
The compact crane has an eight-tonne maximum load capacity, with a reach of up to 45 metres.
Hi Lift Cranes General Manager, Barrie Mabbott, said he has a clear vision of how the MK can change the market.
“The MK crane is ideal for the many tight construction sites in central Auckland,” he said.

“As it requires very little space, both in terms of assembly and in terms of its footprint, road closures can often be avoided.
“Plus, the MK can be placed directly at the building in question thanks to its tower crane structure.”
Mabbott is looking forward to shorter, more flexible operating times, thanks to the MK’s electric drive reducing noise. This feature makes the crane especially useful to use at night.
Two Hi Lift Crane operators have already been trained to handle the new machine and are impressed with the one-man concept and lift-cab, which enables the crane operator to always have the load in view.
Hi Lift Cranes was founded in 1982, making it one of New Zealand’s oldest crane companies. It is a family owned company with 30 staff that have had positive results with its other five Liebherr mobile cranes.
