New topless tower crane for tighter sites

Manitowoc unveiled the new Potain MCT 105 topless tower crane at EXCON 2025, drawing strong interest from contractors, industry professionals and media.

The MCT 105 H5 is manufactured at Manitowoc’s facility in Pune, India, and builds on the design and erection principles of the MCT 85. It offers a longer jib and higher lifting capacity to meet the needs of modern construction sites.

The crane has a maximum lifting capacity of 5 t and can lift 1 t at the end of its 60 m jib. It has a freestanding height of up to 46.1 m and a compact footprint, making it suitable for high-rise and urban construction projects.

Transport efficiency was a key focus in the design. The full top-slewing assembly, including the 60 m jib, can be transported in four truckloads or containers, reducing transport requirements and site setup time.

The MCT 105 shares several components with the MCT 85, including the 4 D3V3 trolley winch, which provides travel speeds of up to 8 m/min with a 50Hz power supply. Optional hoist systems can deliver speeds of up to 105 m/min and a drum capacity of 500 m, allowing the crane to be configured for different applications.

Chris Eastham, General Manager of Manitowoc’s Pune facility, said the crane responds to changing market demands.

“As construction projects increasingly demand broader coverage with compact equipment, the MCT 105’s enhanced load chart and transportability will be a major asset across India and other emerging markets. It’s a game-changer for projects requiring extended jib lengths and efficient setup,” said Chris.

The EXCON 2025 launch included live demonstrations, technical briefings and sessions with Manitowoc’s engineering and product teams, giving attendees a closer look at the crane’s design and capabilities.
