PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur has added a Liebherr LTM 1230-5.1 mobile crane to its fleet, marking the first time the Indonesian fertiliser producer has selected a Liebherr crane.
The 230-tonne, five-axle crane will be used for demanding lifting tasks in fertiliser production, particularly at the company’s Bontang site in East Kalimantan. The crane was chosen because it was the only model on the market that met the company’s specific operational requirements.
PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur, also known as PKT, is one of Asia’s largest fertiliser producers and operates multiple ammonia, urea and NPK plants. The company employs around 1,300 people at its Bontang facility and supplies both domestic and international markets.
“The LTM 1230-5.1 is perfect for our requirements. The 230-tonne crane from Liebherr is the only crane on the market that meets our specific requirements,” said Joko Susilo of PKT.
The LTM 1230-5.1 features Liebherr’s VarioBase Plus support system, which allows the crane to achieve high lifting capacities, particularly over the rear of the crane. The system works in real time with the LICCON control system to optimise lifting performance.
“The single-engine concept ensures economical operation, and the 75-metre telescopic boom is indispensable for our daily lifting tasks. In addition, the compact dimensions and small slewing radius are the ideal solution for our confined working areas,” said Susilo.
PKT plans to use the crane mainly for lifting and installing plant components, as well as for maintenance and modernisation work across its production facilities.
“With the LTM 1230-5.1, we can maintain and modernise our plants flexibly and safely,” said Susilo. “In addition to its technical performance, Liebherr’s service and reliability were also convincing.”
