New LICCON3 in LTM1110-5.2 “great” according to Riga Mainz

Riga Mainz is one of the first companies to receive the new Liebherr LTM1110-5.2 featuring the new LICCON3 system.

Crane and heavy haulage contractor Riga Mainz has taken delivery of one of the first LTM 1110-5.2 mobile cranes featuring the new LICCON3 crane control system.

After unveiling the new LTM 1110-5.2 machine in Spring 2022, Liebherr is now delivering the first 10 new units to customers. Newer features on the modified machine include a redesigned cab to increase operator comfort and new paintwork. The spotlight, however, is stolen by the new LICCON3 system, according to Riga Mainz Managing Director Kai Langer.

“Our aspiration is to set new benchmarks for the industry again and again,” he said. “Therefore, it’s important for us to be involved in new technologies such as LICCON3 right from the start in order to give important feedback to our partners in Liebherr’s development department based on our practical experience.”

The third generation LICCON (Liebherr Computed Control) system is simplified with new software, faster data, a new programming language, and significantly more storage space and high computer performance as well as improved safety tools. To gain a deeper understanding of how the new crane will perform in different environments, Liebherr has sent the first 10 units to customers in the colder climes of the north of Europe and the warmer southern countries.

Upon being trained on the new crane at the Liebherr factory, Riga crane driver David Traud labelled the individual setting options on the new LTM 1110-5.2 as “great”.

“I’m looking forward to being one of the first to drive the new crane; everything is new and much more modern,” he said. “Nevertheless, you quickly get to grips with it, as the operation is basically the same as with the current LICCON2.”

Riga Mainz was conceived in 1929 and today employs over 110 people, operating approximately 40 cranes with lifting capacities ranging from 30 to 700 tonnes. Its fleet also includes various heavy transport units such as 48-axle SPMTs and patented lifting and shifting systems that can easily move 4,000 tonnes.
