New drilling rig enhances construction capabilities

At the recent Bauma trade fair, Liebherr debuted its latest innovation, the LRB 19, a compact piling and drilling rig. This new addition was officially handed over to the construction company Kurt Motz Baubetriebsgesellschaft.

The Munich-based company highlighted the latest additions to its fleet, which include one LB 25, two LB 30s, two LB 35s, and one LB 45, all from Liebherr. “The LRB 19 sets new benchmarks for working effectively in small, tight construction sites. It’s a compact powerhouse,” said Georg Busse, Managing Director of Deep Foundation at Kurt Motz.

The LRB 19 features a 450 kilowatt (kW) diesel engine and a BAT 180.1 rotary drive capable of a maximum torque of 180 kilonewton metres (kNm). It also boasts a relatively low transport weight of 48.2 tonnes, which includes 8 tonnes of counterweight and an auxiliary winch.

Its design enables the machine to be transported as a single unit, even with the vibrator attached. This design feature allows for the quick acquisition of permits for transporting the machine to construction sites with limited space. The uniform machine control across different models simplifies operations for machine operators. “The reliability of Liebherr machines is crucial to our success and underpins our long-term partnership,” Busse added.

The LRB 19 is versatile, suitable for a wide range of deep foundation applications. It can handle piling or vibrating tasks using the H 6 hammer or the LV 23 and LV 23 F vibrators, all manufactured by Liebherr. Additionally, it can be employed for drilling with Kelly equipment, double drilling heads, full displacement equipment, continuous flight auger, or soil mixing. The model name LRB 19 signifies the 19-metre maximum travel distance of its sledge. Kurt Motz plans to use the machine for installing sheet piling on its inaugural job site.
