Swiss crane company Musfeld Kran has taken delivery of a new Tadano AC 7.450-1 all-terrain crane to expand its urban construction capacities.
Already in possession of a Tadano AC 350 and AC 500, the Basel-based company took stock of its new 450-tonne capacity all-terrain crane citing the crane’s compact dimensions – 17.62mx8.99m with the outriggers included – and high lifting capabilities.
“We were instantly sold on the AC 7.450-1, not just because of its technical specs, but because of its versatility,” said Musfeld CEO Harry Flückiger. “With its compact design, it can be operated at capacities from 300 tonnes and up.”
Formally handed over by Tadano’s regional Sales Manager Michael Zieger, the crane will be based in Basel and work for all companies in the Toggenburger Group, a joint venture that Musfeld partakes in. Including staff input into the decision-making process, Flückiger highlights the practicality of the Superlift system using the self-assembly feature and the 80m of main boom as the key standout features from those who would be using the crane. Musfeld ordered the crane with the extra luffing jib which can extend out to 81m. The crane holds a maximum tip height of 132m, making the machine ideal for hoisting loads over obstacles in urban environments and erecting tower cranes, according to Flückiger.
“We often need to work in tight spaces, especially in cities like Basel,” he said. “In confined spaces, it’s very difficult to add a luffing jib or an extension, so the AC 7.450-1 unit’s long main boom is ideal.”
According to the Japanese manufacturers, the Tadano AC 7.450-1 combines the power of an eight-axle machine with the compact nature of a six-axle crane, making it one of the most versatile machines on the market. For Musfeld Kran, the ‘Surround View’ camera system – a six-camera, 360-degree graphic view of the crane –, the short set up times, and interchangeability of counterweight plates with its AC 500 made the 450-tonne all-terrain crane the machine of choice for its projects on tight jobsites.
Musfeld Kran was founded in 2004 as a subsidiary of Musfeld AG and Toggenburger Group. With origins dating back to the 60s, Musfeld Kran now focuses on heavy lifting and transport solutions.
