Membrey’s Transport and Crane Hire celebrated its 60th birthday with the arrival of a new telescopic crawler in Melbourne and the opening of a new branch facility at Crestmead in Logan west of Brisbane.
The new telescopic crawler is a Liebherr LTR 1220, one of the first to arrive in Victoria and probably the only one available for long term hire says Membrey’s Managing Director, Craig Membrey.
“We celebrated our 60th with the arrival of the new Liebherr LTR 1220 telescopic crawler. We bought the crane without having a project for it to work on but knowing there was a real gap in the market and we want everyone to know it is available for long term hire or long-term projects.
Like all Liebherr cranes it is a beautifully engineered machine and it is perfectly suited to all types of applications. With a lifting capacity of 220 tonne the crawler is extremely rugged and has the ability to pick and carry on site which is a major advantage for infrastructure projects, construction sites and mines or anywhere heavy lifting and then carrying is required.
“With the current shortage of new equipment, and lack of availability, particularly in this class of crane, we are interested to hear from customers or crane hire operators who have requirements for this capacity of crane. We are happy to receive calls from around the country,” he said.
The Liebherr LTR 1220 telescopic crawler combines the features of a telescopic all terrain crane with those of a crawler crane – the crawler travel gear provides outstanding offroad handling as well as excellent manoeuvrability.
The advantages of a telescopic crane include its short set-up times, simple transportability and the variability of its boom system. The telescopic boom is quickly extended and retracted to the required length with full automation. Another plus point is that the crane can travel with a full load on the hook. There is no need for an auxiliary crane on site as it is self-erecting which provides a major significant financial benefit.
With a maximum load capacity 220t, a telescopic boom of 60m, maximum hoist height of 101 m and maximum operating radius of 88m the Liebherr LTR 1220 has class leading features says Membrey.
“We’ve called the crane ‘The Beast’ for obvious reasons. It’s a rugged, powerful crane. I’ve always wanted one in the fleet and our 60th birthday was a good reason to bring this crane into the country. We are keen to see it working on projects and to see what it can really do,” he said.
The move into Brisbane has been some time in the planning and Membrey’s is excited about the possibilities.
“We have a lot happening within the business and we’ve been looking to diversify and expand our operations for some time. We are experts in end-to-end transport and logistics solutions, including craneage and many of our customers in Victoria operate up and down the East Coast.
“We recently signed a lease on a yard in Crestmead in the west of Brisbane and there’s a lot of development happening in that region. The move gives a solid foot hold in South East Queensland and we are very excited at the prospect of servicing existing and new clients throughout the region with our make it happen approach,” he said.
