Manitowoc has introduced its biggest Grove Hydraulic Crawler (GHC) crane yet, the GHC200.

The crawler comes with a lifting capacity of 160 tonnes (t) and a 56.4-metre (m) main boom, the new model is designed for heavy-duty lifting in challenging environments suchas swampy or mountainous terrain.

The GHC200 was showcased in May 2024 at Manitowoc’s Crane Days event in Shady Grove, Pennsylvania, United States.

JJ Grace, Manitowoc’s product manager for GHC cranes said, the crane is aimed at helping companies take on more demanding jobs by offering higher lifting capacities.

“It is an ideal crane for general construction and renewable energy because of its strength and increased pick-and-carry capabilities,” Grace said.

Key features and enhancements

The GHC200 introduces several new features, including an additional 90 per cent pinning location on the boom sections, which increases both capacity and flexibility during setup. When equipped with a 21.8m manual or hydraulic swingaway extension, it reaches a maximum tip height of 81m.

The crane also includes out-of-level load charts, allowing it to pick and carry at full capacity on inclinations of up to four degree. It can also rotate loads a full 360-degree.

The main and auxiliary hoists include drum rotation and third wrap indicators, with 26 millimetre (mm) wire rope, providing a maximum permissible single-line pull of 13.5t.

The GHC200 can be transported to job sites in six to seven loads and features quick self-assembly. Inside the cab, operators get a heated air suspension seat, climate control, and cameras offering hoist, rear, and right-side views.

A 20-degree tilting cab improves visibility and ergonomics, especially when working at high angles with an extended boom.
