Manitowoc unveils its biggest Potain luffing jib crane yet at bauma 2025

At bauma 2025, Manitowoc introduced the Potain MR 819, its largest luffing jib tower crane to date. The new crane is designed for heavy lifting at dense, high-rise construction sites. With a maximum capacity of 64 tonnes (t), this new model is twice as powerful as the company’s previous heavy lifters, the MR 608B and MR 618.

The MR 819 has a jib that extends up to 70 metres (m) and can be raised to create an out-of-service radius as small as 16 metres. The crane can be installed at different freestanding heights and configurations using Manitowoc’s new K 880 mast system.

For example, it can be built freestanding up to 65.6 metres with a 50m jib or reach 210 metres when tied to a structure with just five anchor frames.

The MR 819 delivers performance across various setups:

• With a 55m jib and three-fall reeving, it can lift 64t at a 17m radius, or 10.8t at the jib’s tip.
• In a two-fall reeving setup and a 65m jib, it can handle 42t out to 21m, and 7.4t at the tip.

This level of flexibility makes it suitable for lifting large precast components often used in bridge or nuclear power plant construction.

New winch and smarter controls

To manage these heavy loads, Manitowoc developed a new 270 LVF 213 Optima hoisting winch. It features:
• A 200-kilowatt (kW) motor
• 838 metres of rope
• Line speeds up to 183 m/minute (in single-fall mode)

There’s also a dedicated luffing hoist that adjusts the jib angle from 15 degrees to 87 degrees in just over two minutes. Energy-saving tech such as Potain Power Control helps optimise electricity use during less intensive operations.

Improvements to cab and telematics

Operators get an ‘Ultra View’ cab, which integrates with Manitowoc’s Crane Control System (CCS) for quick setup and real-time adjustments. Additionally, the MR 819 includes Potain Connect, the company’s latest telematics platform, offering information into performance, maintenance needs, and remote troubleshooting.
