Qatari construction company Galfar Al Misnad have added a pair of 100-tonne Grove GMK4100L-2 all-terrain cranes to their burgeoning fleet.
Placing the order through local Manitowoc dealer Mannai Trading, the first of the cranes has already been handed over in March this year and was put straight to work on Qatar’s North Field Expansion Project.
The North Field, representing the southern part of the natural gas field shared between Qatar and Iran, is the world’s largest non-associated natural gas field. The first crane – after being received at Galfar al Misnad’s workshop in Doha – was immediately deployed to assist on the construction of a gas pipeline.
“We choose Grove cranes for their reliability and durability, as well as their strong after-sales service, excellent resale value, and operator-friendly designs,” said Anwar Sadath, head of the plant department at Galfar Al Misnad.
Holding a 100-tonne capacity, the Grove GMK4100L-2 crane has four-axles, a width of 2.55 metres, and Megatrak suspension, providing it with a maneuverability suited to tightly congested jobsites.
Additionally, it can hold 6.8-tonnes of counterweight in its taxi configuration, boasts a 60-metre main boom with a 16-metre swingaway jib for further reach, and holds the potential to run entirely on HVO fuel providing a low-fuel-consumption alternative.
With the second crane set to be handed over soon, news of these two deliveries comes as Manitowoc recently announced it would be expanding its manufacturing capabilities in its Niella Tanaro plant in Italy to produce the GRT8120 and GRT8100-1 rough-terrain cranes.
