Mammoet takes delivery of first Liebherr battery-electric mobile crane

Mammoet has become the first company to take delivery of Liebherr’s new LTM 1150-5.4E mobile crane with a battery-electric drive.

The international engineered heavy lifting and transport company has received the crane while prototype testing continues at Liebherr’s plant in Ehingen, Germany. The crane will now be tested in practical use by Mammoet.

Liebherr plans to begin series delivery of the LTM 1150-5.4E in spring 2026.

Mammoet previously took delivery of the first Liebherr LTC 1050-3.1E with an electric crane drive in 2023 and reported positive results from its use.

Peter van Oostrom, Global Projects Asset Director at Mammoet, said, “Mammoet has a long history of investing in new solutions for engineered heavy lifting and transport. Our purchase of the LTM 1150-5.4E is the next step in this journey, whereby we will help our customers to drive down project emissions while supporting the growth of energy and infrastructure. Compared to the LTC1050-3.1E, the new 150-tonne crane has a battery pack, which gives us significantly more flexibility.”

Mammoet analysed fuel consumption data from cranes in this capacity range to assess how the hybrid crane would perform in daily operations.

“We examined a random two-week period in the north and south of the Netherlands and estimate that we can operate this crane fully electrically with the battery pack nine days out of ten. This helps us to reduce emissions for Mammoet, but also for our customers,” says van Oostrom.

The delivery supports Mammoet’s wider sustainability strategy, which focuses on reducing CO₂ emissions across its operations. The company is already using electric SPMT transporters, electric skidding systems and electrically powered SK ring cranes.

Mathias Hoogstra, Head of Sustainability at Mammoet, said, “Our company is driven to ensure that we provide clients with solutions that reduce their emissions on site. This continuing journey is being accelerated with products like this 1150-5.4E. By being at the forefront of the transition to hybrid and fully electric machines, we contribute to a cleaner jobsite whilst supporting our own reduction ambitions.”

Liebherr first presented the LTM 1150-5.4 at Bauma 2025, featuring the new LICCON3 control system. The LTM 1150-5.4E variant includes an electric drive that allows crane movements to be carried out without emissions and with lower noise levels.

The crane is fitted with an integrated battery that allows it to operate for up to four hours without a power connection. It can also deliver full crane performance with a low on-site power supply, using the battery as a buffer.

Liebherr said the LTM 1150-5.4E responds to changing customer demands by combining sustainability with high efficiency.
