With the addition of the three new tower cranes, Select now owns twelve units, giving it the largest fleet of CTL 1600-66 tower cranes globally – a far reach from March 2023, when the UK construction equipment company was purchasing just its sixth and seventh models. According to Select Tower Cranes’ Business Stream Leader, Clare Rodgers, the 200 per cent increase in its fleet comes down to the “requirement for heavy lifting tower cranes” in areas such as energy and data sectors.
“Our clients, including Laing O’Rourke, see the benefits of these heavy-duty machines when deploying modern methods of construction to deliver projects for clients,” she said. “We will soon see more CTL1600 machines being installed on sites across the country, including a fantastic project in Oxford and further projects to be disclosed in the near future.”
The CTL 1600-66 possesses a maximum lifting capacity of 66 tonnes and a jib tip capacity of 16 tonnes, with the jib extending out to 75m in its maximum length configuration, and comes equipped with T-Torque slewing technology for better slewing control, the Terex Power Plus to boost operating capacity, and Terex Power Match to lower energy consumption. According to the manufacturer, the Terex CTL series is most adept on the construction of high-rise buildings and urban jobsites, and is equally comfortable working alongside one of its sister-models thanks to its design that allows for a wide variety of configurations. Terex Tower Cranes’ Global Sales Director, Lee Maynard, said Select Plant Hire’s purchase represented the “significant opportunities” for the Terex CTL luffing jib tower cranes not only in the UK, but across the globe.
“It is a testament to Select Plants’ vision that they will have at least twelve CTL 1600s in their fleet by the end of 2024, which will be the largest fleet of this model globally,” he said. “Our established and well-respected range of large luffers is in demand, which makes for an exciting year ahead.”
