Transportes Crexell, a logistics company based in Neuquén, Argentina, has just made a bold move toward greener construction. They’ve added five new Liebherr cranes to their fleet—including Argentina’s very first electric crane designed for the oil and gas sector.
The highlight of this crane package is Liebherr‘s LTC 1050-3.1E, a 50-tonne compact crane that runs on both a conventional engine and an electric motor. That means it can operate in hybrid mode—cutting down CO₂ emissions on construction sites.
“Our customers want cleaner options,” says Eugenio Diaz, Commercial Director at Transportes Crexell. “This crane gives us flexibility, solid lifting power, and it’s compact enough to use in tighter spaces.”
Right now, Argentina’s oil and gas industry is just starting to explore electrification. That’s why this move is significant. The LTC 1050-3.1E won’t be heading straight into remote oilfields though—at least not yet. Until the infrastructure for electric equipment improves, it’ll mostly work in cities and company depots.
Alongside the electric model, Transportes Crexell picked up:
* Two LTR 1220 telescopic crawler cranes
* One LTR 1150 crawler crane
* One LTM 1250-5.1 mobile crane
All five cranes are from Liebherr, a German-based manufacturer known for building everything from small two-axle cranes to 3,000-tonne lattice boom giants.
Crexell has trusted Liebherr for nearly 20 years. Of the 99 cranes in its fleet, 41 are from Liebherr—and with this latest delivery, that number climbs to 46. The company doesn’t just support oil and gas; they’re also active in transporting drilling rigs and servicing the wind energy sector.
