Liebherr’s STS crane delivery is set to bolster the busy port’s capacity.

The two STS cranes will be responsible for moving shipping containers from large vessels to the PNCT dock, or vice versa.

They feature a 69-metre outreach and a lift height over rail of 53m, making them suited for handling larger vessels and boosting throughput.

Liebherr STS cranes can lift safe working loads of 40 to 120 tonnes during single, twin and tandem lift configurations.

Advanced features such as electronic anti-sway and laser anti-collision systems, ensure smooth, safe, and highly efficient crane operations.

General Manager Sales at Liebherr, Declan O’Sullivan detailed the STS’s impact.

“Our customisable designs and in-house manufacturing allow us to offer tailored solutions that meet the needs of each terminal,” he said.

“Liebherr has earned a reputation for high-quality engineering and is proud to continue to be a trusted partner to ports in the USA at a time when safety and security are paramount.”

According to PNCT President, James Pelliccio, Liebherr’s relationship with PNCT has contributed to the terminal’s growth.

Our strategy is focused on creating a modern and efficient terminal, and these cranes are a pivotal part of that transformation,” he said.

“Liebherr’s crane design plays an essential role in our journey to becoming one of the most advanced ports on the East Coast.”

Head of Sales, Maritime Cranes at Liebherr USA’s Winston Ziegler spoke about the companies focus for the United States.

“Liebherr’s commitment to the US market remains strong, with a local team of 35 dedicated professionals ensuring top-tier support for every crane we deliver,” he said.

“The successful handover of these cranes to PNCT underscores our role as a key player in supporting America’s ports.”
