Liebherr showcases remote-controlled offshore crane

At a special event held in Rostock at the end of May 2025, Liebherr wowed industry professionals with a live demonstration of their advanced remote maintenance technology.

The event highlighted how offshore cranes can now be controlled from hundreds of kilometres away, thanks to Liebherr’s Intelligent Maintenance System (LiMain).

During the demonstration, the RL 2600 offshore crane, stationed on a platform in the middle of the North Sea, was operated remotely from a control centre in Rostock—over 600 kilometres away. This impressive feat showcased the reliability and precision of Liebherr’s Remote Control System, known as LiReCon.

After the live display, attendees from the oil, gas, and offshore wind industries had the chance to try out the system themselves, experiencing firsthand how user-friendly and effective it is.

Participants also toured Liebherr’s test facilities, stepping onto several RL series offshore cranes to learn more about the latest technological developments. The event served as a hub for industry experts to exchange ideas, discuss the future of unmanned offshore operations, and address key topics like cybersecurity—a crucial factor in protecting offshore platforms, which are considered part of critical infrastructure.

Liebherr’s showcase not only demonstrated the new technology but also opened doors for future collaborations across industries.
