Liebherr sets the scene with mobile crane at Karl May Festival

Liebherr’s LTM 1090-4.2 mobile crane is set to play a leading role behind the scenes at the Karl May Festival in Northern Germany.

Operated by local company Segeberger Abschleppdienst & Krandienst, the new mobile crane will aid in assembling the scenery for this year’s performances, chosen specifically because of its manoeuvrability and long reach.

With the company adding the 90-tonner to its fleet in February, owner René Sellmer labelled the crane as “perfect” for the job at hand.

“On the one hand, it’s sufficiently compact and manoeuvrable for the narrow access road,” he said. “On the other, with its 60-metre telescopic boom, it can reach all the required assembly areas from one crane location, where the soil is sufficiently load-bearing. However, since we can’t fully extend all the sliding beams, the VarioBase® variable support base is worth its weight in gold since it enables us to work safely.”

As the LTM 1090-4.2 is a taxi crane, its capabilities without a counterweight transport vehicle are numerous. Carrying 8.8 tonnes of ballast with a 12-tonne axle load on public roads, the crane’s flexible configurations are especially underscored in the tight proximities of setting up the individual components of a theatre set.

The festival, held in Bad Segeberg, will run from the June 24 to September 3.
