INZAG has taken delivery of a new Liebherr LTM 1090-4.2 mobile crane, strengthening its fleet ahead of a major infrastructure project in southern Angola.
The 4-axle, 90-tonne crane is the second of its type for the internationally active construction company and reflects its focus on standardising equipment across its fleet.
Lorenz Weber, Procurement Director at INZAG, said the company prefers reliable and versatile cranes over a wide mix of models. “Unlike crane hire companies, our aim is not to have the largest possible fleet with many different crane types, but rather a reliable all-rounder that is versatile and capable of handling both small and large lifts,” he said.
The LTM 1090-4.2 combines mobility with efficient operation. Its variable axle loads allow for easier transport and flexible deployment on both public roads and construction sites. Features such as ECOdrive and ECOmode help reduce fuel consumption and noise.
The crane will be deployed on a 146-kilometre road rehabilitation project between Caiundo and Savate, in a remote part of southern Angola.
Leandro Fernandez, Managing Director at INZAG, said the new crane will support the early stages of the project. “With this new addition to our fleet, we are preparing for the start of a 146-kilometre road construction project in Angola,” he said.
The isolated location means external crane hire is not an option, increasing the need for flexible, self-managed equipment.
Weber said adaptability was critical for the project. “For this project, we needed a multifunctional crane that can be mobilised quickly, is flexible on site and can also be replaced during the operation – should that become necessary,” he said.
The crane will be used during mobilisation, including setting up camps and facilities, as well as handling unloading and logistics tasks. It will also support operations at bitumen and precast plants and assist with installing box culverts.
Fernandez said the decision to select Liebherr reflects a long-standing relationship between the two companies. “In addition to the machine itself, customer service, spare parts availability and technical support play a decisive role for us – requirements that Liebherr fulfils,” he said.
INZAG Germany GmbH focuses on large-scale construction projects across sub-Saharan Africa. With around 500 employees, the company works across road, water, energy and port infrastructure.
Weber said the company combines European engineering expertise with experience in challenging markets. “We are currently active in Angola, Ghana and Uganda, among other places, combining European engineering expertise with extensive project experience in challenging markets,” he said.
