Liebherr has expanded its range of telescopic handlers with the launch of the new T48-8s, offering more reach and lift height while retaining the performance and comfort of the existing T55-7s.
The new model delivers a true lift height of 8 metres and a maximum load capacity of 4.8 tonnes. It is now rolling out of production and is available for configuration and order, with sales to officially commence at Bauma 2025.
At the core of the T48-8s is a telescopic boom that is 550 mm longer than that of the T55-7s. This gives operators an extra metre of lift height and forward reach, making the machine well suited to tasks such as loading bulk trailers, hoppers and containers up to 4 metres high.
The additional reach is particularly beneficial in industrial material handling and recycling operations. In these environments, operators can stack and move material more efficiently without having to drive deep into piles. This improves manoeuvrability, safety and overall productivity on site.

The T48-8s shares many key components with the T55-7s. It is powered by the same 115 kW engine and features high-performance working hydraulics. The operator’s cab is also carried over, offering an ergonomic layout and excellent all-round visibility.
Control is managed through a multifunction joystick mounted directly to the seat. As the seat moves, the joystick moves with it, allowing for intuitive and precise operation at all times. The electronic pre-control system supports a range of Liebherr assistance functions, including Auto Power, Fine Control Mode and Automatic Telescope Retraction, helping to simplify operation and reduce operator fatigue during long shifts.
Hydraulic performance is a strong focus of the new model. A load-sensing hydraulic pump with a variable flow rate of up to 200 litres per minute delivers responsive performance while maintaining energy efficiency. Features such as simultaneous working movements, fast cycle times and ECO-Motion load-free lowering contribute to smooth and controlled machine operation.
Visibility and safety have also been improved. The longer boom reduces the lift angle required to reach the tipping position during loading. This gives operators a clearer view of the load and surrounding area, helping to reduce the risk of collisions. An optimised dump angle allows material to discharge more easily from the bucket, supporting faster and cleaner loading cycles.
Structural stability and advanced load moment control are standard, ensuring safe and reliable operation across a wide range of applications.
Inside the cab, the T48-8s comes standard with a 3.5-inch colour display, with an optional 7-inch display available for more detailed machine information and monitoring. The steering system offers three selectable steering modes plus crab steering, all electronically switchable via a rotary control to suit different working environments.
In terms of performance, the T48-8s delivers lift capacities comparable to the T55-7s across most of its working range, while providing greater reach both upwards and forwards. This makes it well suited to customers who prioritise lift height and reach, including those in industrial, agricultural and recycling sectors.
Compared with other 8-metre machines on the market, Liebherr says the T48-8s offers a true 8-metre lift height, while many competing models reach only 7.6 or 7.7 metres. Although nominal lift capacity at full retraction is slightly lower, the machine is designed to match or exceed competitors in real-world working ranges between 2 and 4 metres.
The first T48-8s units are now leaving the production line. Liebherr says the new model strengthens its telescopic handler range by combining extended reach, strong lifting performance and the comfort and reliability the brand is known for.
