Liebherr hands over 2,000th mobile harbour crane

A significant milestone in European industry was celebrated in Ravenna as Liebherr officially delivered its 2,000th mobile harbour crane to steel giant Marcegaglia. The LHM 600 crane, now the largest in Marcegaglia’s local fleet, is set to bolster steel cargo handling operations at the company’s high-volume Ravenna site.

The ceremony saw senior leaders from both companies come together, including Antonio Marcegaglia, President and CEO of Marcegaglia, and Patricia Rüf, Member of the Administrative Board at Liebherr-International AG, reaffirming a partnership that has spanned over two decades.

“We are proud to receive this milestone crane,” said Antonio Marcegaglia during the event. “It is not only a technical asset but a symbol of our shared journey with Liebherr – one built on reliability, innovation and mutual respect.”

The LHM 600, designed for performance and operator comfort, features an outreach of 61 metres, a lifting capacity of 154 tonnes, a digital interface, and an ergonomic cabin. Essential safety features, including standby-enabled fire protection, ensure resilience in demanding port environments.

Marcegaglia’s Ravenna site handles over four million tonnes of steel annually and plays a pivotal role in the company’s logistics strategy. The new crane will support the handling of steel coils, billets, and plates, enhancing efficiency and safety in cargo operations.

The event also highlighted the contributions of Mac Port, Liebherr’s long-standing sales and service partner in Italy. Their technical support has been vital in maintaining the performance of the crane fleet across Marcegaglia’s sites.

“To deliver our 2,000th mobile harbour crane to Marcegaglia is a proud moment,” said Andreas Ritschel, General Manager Sales Mobile Harbour Cranes at Liebherr Rostock. “It speaks to the strength of our legacy and to the shared innovation with our customers that drives us forward.”
