Liebherr has officially delivered its first LTM 1110-5.2 mobile crane equipped with advanced driver assistance systems, and it’s going to the Ulferts Group.
This 110-tonne, five-axle crane is packed with cutting-edge tech designed to improve road safety and make crane operations more efficient.
The Liebherr crane features a suite of new safety tools, including cameras and sensors that help operators avoid collisions by detecting people and obstacles around the vehicle. These systems are especially useful in urban environments or crowded job sites where visibility can be limited.
Ulferts Group co-head Temmo Niekamp personally picked up the new crane from Liebherr’s Ehingen plant. “We’re excited to test these systems in real conditions and contribute to road safety,” he said.
What’s new in the LTM 1110-5.2
The new crane is built with the LICCON3 control system, known for its ease of use and modern design. It also features a 60-metre telescopic boom, variable axle loads for better flexibility, and high travel comfort—on both roads and construction sites.
Niekamp highlighted how these systems reduce stress for crane operators: “They help monitor areas that were previously hard—or even impossible—to see.”
Driver assistance systems
- MOIS (Moving-Off Information System): Uses front-facing cameras to spot people, especially children, who may be hidden from view in front of the crane. Alerts appear on a cockpit display with sound and visuals.
- BSIS (Blind Spot Information System): Scans both sides of the crane to detect people or objects in blind spots, using digital cameras and a “camera wing.” Niekamp noted they added an optional in-cab monitor for improved visibility, even in poor weather or low light.
- REIS (Reversing Information System): Activates automatically when the crane goes into reverse, checking for obstacles in the rear blind zone.
Together, these systems give crane operators much better awareness of their surroundings, which can help protect pedestrians and cyclists.
The Ulferts Group, along with its long-time partners Wittrock and Ulferts & Wittrock, has a history of ordering cranes from Liebherr. Niekamp says investing in modern equipment like this makes long-term planning easier and operations more cost-effective.
