Two Liebherr crawler cranes have been used to complete complex slurry wall work at an underground station in Naples, Italy.
The slurry wall at the “Parco San Paolo” underground station, being built by Italian construction company SAOS s.r.l, is being built with both a hydraulic crawler and cycle crawler crane, company Production Manager, Antonio Mazzucco says.
“The slurry wall will be 1.2 metres thick and the bite length is 2.8 metres at a maximum depth of 52 metres,” Antonio says.
“Altogether, 134 panels must be installed. We are using the HS 8130.1 9 (duty cycle) with cutter LSC 8-18 and the HS 855 HD (hydraulic) with hydraulic grab for this.”
The strength of the HS 8130.1 duty cycle crawler crane, with a load capacity of 130-tonnes, combines with the versatility of the LSC 8-18 slurry wall cutter to cover all possible working positions, he adds.
The HS 855 HD hydraulic crawler crane includes various attachments, which also adds versatility when installing the 134 panels.
Bertram Pfeifer, Application Specialist at Liebherr-Werk Nenzing GmbH, spoke to the compatibility of the H3 8130.1 and the slurry wall cutter.
“This machine is ideally suited for use with slurry wall cutters as it is equipped with a powerful 570 kW Liebherr engine. Nevertheless, it produces only low emissions and little noise. This is perfect for working in urban areas like here in Naples,” said Bertram.
Liebherr’s offering of the “4C-Power” pay-per-use business model was also a benefit for SAOS s.r.l, he added, with the construction company only required to pay for the cutter wheel drives per working hour and the fee covers all costs of the cutter wheel drives, including overhaul, service and transport.
