Dutch crane rental company Verschoor has acquired a new 1000-tonne Liebherr crawler crane to expand its wind farm construction capabilities.
Now the most powerful crane in the Dutch company’s fleet, the LR 11000 joins two LG 1750 and one LG 1550 lattice boom mobile cranes as part of the company’s wind farm machinery. The crane has already been sent out to work at the Vanikum wind farm, where Verschoor tested its newest asset’s capabilities with a 117-tonne lift of a gearbox on a wind tower measuring up to 169m. Also included in the lifts were tower sections, the nacelle, and rotor blades, with Verschoor manager, Maarten Verschoor Jr., praising the “enormous” lifting power of the LR 11000.
“For us, Liebherr is and remains the world’s number one crane manufacturer,” he said. “The developments and inventions that Liebherr offers are progressive and fulfil our expectations.”
The 1000-tonne capacity Liebherr crawler crane can lift at heights of up to 220m and operate at a maximum radius of 184m. The crane’s main feature, however, is its economical transport concept, featuring a transport width of 3.5m and a transport height of 3.2m. Additionally, the crawler also comes with Liebherr’s patented V-frame technology that allows the derrick ballast to be adjusted by up to 17m into the required position and reduces the workload for ballast handling.
The crane is equally adept for jobs such as port operations and infrastructure projects thanks to the numerous boom variants the machine comes with. At Verschoor, however, the crane will predominantly be used for wind power projects, such as the one it has already completed near the Dutch border in North Rhine-Westphalia.
Founded in 1966, Verschoor has accrued a fleet of over 70 cranes, with the Liebherr LR 11000 being the largest and heaviest in its history. To celebrate the occasion, the crane was named after the company’s founder, Maarten Verschoor Sr.
“I’m very proud to have lived to see this special moment,” he said, “and would never have imagined what we would achieve with our initial small shop in Sassenheim.”
