Austrian crane company Kran Mitterhauser has expanded its mobile crane fleet by adding a Grove GMK5120L all-terrain crane to its fleet.
With the formal handover occurring back in mid-December 2022, the crane was put to work in aiding Kran Mitterhauser’s services of lifting prefabricated construction and industrial units, salvage work, and tree-pruning.
Citing the consistency and reliability of the Grove product – thanks to their prior purchase of a GMK6300L-1 – general manager Helmut Mitterhauser said the company was “very happy” to receive a new Grove.
“With the GMK5120L, we were really impressed with the long boom and the MAXbase variable outrigger positioning that gives us so much flexibility with set-up,” he said. “The GMK5120L is a versatile addition that will help us support a broader range of customer projects.”
The five-axle, 120-tonne capacity Grove provides a long reach thanks in no small part to its 66-metre main boom and taxi crane capabilities, carrying up to 14.6-tonnes of counterweight in a 12-tonnes per axle set-up – or 3.1-tonnes of counterweight in a 10-tonnes per axle configuration.
With greater flexibility induced from its taxiing capabilities, the Grove also allows for lower transportation costs thanks to its ability to easily adapt to different axle configurations of 10-tonnes, 12-tonnes, or 16.5-tonnes per axle.
With compact dimensions of just 14.2 m overall length and 2.75 m width, the GMK5120L provides easier access to jobsites, operating in tandem with great manoeuvrability resulting from Grove’s MEGATRAK suspension.
The all-terrain mobile crane also comes with the new generation of Grove carrier cab, giving the operator an extra 235 mm towards the outside for enhanced visibility and flexibility.
With the introduction of EUROMOT 5, the GMK5120L and other Grove all-terrain cranes can be operated with HVO diesel that enables CO2 emission reductions of up to 90%.
