German manufacturer Liebherr-Aerospace Lindenberg GmbH is showing how international training can help address the global shortage of skilled workers.
In partnership with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and its PAM programme – Partnerships for development-oriented training and labour migration – Liebherr is helping young people from around the world start careers in Germany’s engineering industry.
One of those young professionals is Victoria Santacruz from Ecuador. Through the PAM programme, she joined Liebherr and completed her training as an industrial mechanic.
Victoria first learned about the programme while still at school in Ecuador. It connects young people with German companies in need of apprentices and skilled workers. After successfully completing the programme and proving her German language skills, she applied to Liebherr and was accepted.
At the company’s Lindenberg site, Victoria was trained to manufacture device components and gained expertise in turning, milling and assembly. She also learned to maintain and commission production systems.
Thanks to her strong performance and commitment, she completed her training early and was offered a permanent position at Liebherr.
Since 2019, GIZ’s PAM programme has supported fair and safe training and labour migration. More than 2,000 people have participated or are currently taking part, helping companies like Liebherr fill critical vacancies and benefit from diverse global talent.
