Heavy lifting to the MAX

The Moomba Depot for MAX Cranes and the MAX Heavy Lift Team recently assisted Santos with lifting and placement of a 246t absorber in the Cooper Basin.

A 1200t Liebherr LTM11200-9.1 with 202t of counterweight in TY (Superlift configuration) and a 400t Liebherr LTM1400-7.1 with 120t of counterweight also in TY (Superlift) were used to conduct the lift.

The 1200t and 8 row platform travelled up to Moomba the day before to avoid the forecast rain and expected road closures.

The project involved:

– 1200t and 400t mobile cranes

– 12 road trains of counterweight and lifting equipment

– 100t Liebherr LTM1100-5.2 and 25t pick and carry support cranes to assist with rigging and de-rigging

– 1 x 8 row platform for 1200t boom

– 1 x 1200t crane carrier

The job was completed over three days. This included rigging the 1200t (part of which was completed at MAX Moomba depot), positioning the crane on outrigger mats and finalising the build onsite.

A crew of 10 MAX employees, which included operators, riggers, Moomba site supervisors, MAX Heavy Lift Project Manager, MAX Technical Manager and MAX Moomba Operations Manager ensured the work was completed safely.
