Fully electric rough terrain crane launched by Tadano

Tadano has announced the launch of a fully electric rough terrain crane to the Japanese crane market, the EVOLT eGR-250N.

Global crane manufacturer Tadano has announced the launch of the world’s first fully electric rough terrain crane, the EVOLT eGR-250N.

Tadano has exclusively released the fully electrified rough terrain crane to the Japanese market, with the machine possessing a lifting capacity of 25 tonnes and representing the company’s “commitment” to reducing carbon emissions and embracing sustainable practices, according to a press release. As part of its “Green Solutions” strategy, Tadano is aiming to reduce CO2 emissions from its machines by 35 per cent by 2030 and is “striving” for complete climate neutrality by 2050.

To conduct its operations, the first fully electric rough terrain crane leans on a battery as its power source, maintaining the “exceptional lifting and running performance of the conventional GR series”, according to the press release. Operating in tandem with its 25-tonne capacity, the crane possesses a maximum working radius of 34m and is capable of lifting at a height of 44.2m.

The eGR-250N’s electric power is driven by a lithium-ion battery with a total capacity of 226kWh. Offering “versatility and productivity” on the job site and significantly reducing the carbon footprint associated with traditional diesel-powered cranes, the EVOLT eGR-250N offers significant battery autonomy, with crane work lasting approximately 5 hours and traveling approximately 42km on a full charge. For crane work only, the autonomy extends to approximately 11 hours, and for driving only, approximately 70km.

In addition to environmental benefits, the EVOLT eGR-250N introduces a significant reduction in noise levels during travel and crane work, providing added value for use in noise-sensitive Japanese construction sites.

News of Tadano’s latest release comes after the global manufacturer expanded its operations in the AWP industry, making the significant acquisition of all shares of Nagano Industry.
