First Liebherr crawler arrives in largest UK crane hire company’s depot

Ainscough Crane Hire has acquired the first Liebherr LR 1700-1.0 crawler crane to land in the UK.

Ainscough Crane Hire has become the latest company to acquire a Liebherr LR 1700-1.0 crawler crane, according to a press release from the German manufacturer.

The handover of the 700-tonne capacity machine took place on the October 30 at Ainscough’s Leyland depot in Lancashire, England. The crane was purchased to enhance Ainscough’s Projects Division as it seeks broader opportunities within the heavy lift market and becomes the first of its kind in the country, according to the UK’s largest crane hire company.

“The Liebherr LR-1700 1.0 represents the latest design technology within the heavy crane industry and by adding one to our fleet it will give us the flexibility to undertake a wider range of projects with a single crane,” said Ainscough Crane Hire’s CEO, Peter Gibbs. “Our recent open day to showcase the crane’s abilities to our existing customers has been a huge success with many clients expressing an interest in utilising its outstanding performance on their projects.”

The crane features a maximum hoisting height of 196m.

Released by the German manufacturing giant in the middle of 2021, the Liebherr LR 1700-1.0 crawler crane was designed to replace the older LR 1600/2 crawler range. The machine, according to Liebherr, combines the lower transport costs of the 600-tonne crane class with the lifting performance of the 750-tonne lattice boom models. The 1700-1.0 series’ dimensions reflect the more compact design of the 1600/2 series but – thanks to a redesigned static structure – can offer up to 15 per cent higher lifting capacities.

In terms of general specifications, the 700-tonne crawler crane can lift at a maximum radius of 160m and possesses a maximum hoisting height of 196m. To ensure the crane possesses maximum flexibility for its future heavy lifting operations, Ainscough purchased its newest crawler crane with HS boom and derrick, with the crane also coming with folding V-Frame ranging from 13m through to 21m and 375 tonnes of counterweight. The crane also comes with an additional power unit to power the cabin, air conditioning and hydraulic oil pre-heating system without the main engine running, decreasing engine idling time and reducing fuel consumption, emissions, and operational costs.
