Engineers Australia reveals program for “must-attend” climate conference

Engineers Australia has announced the speaker and panel lineup for the 2024 Climate Smart Engineering Conference set to be held in Brisbane this August.

According to the association, the program will go in depth on the clean energy transition, examining the engineering profession’s role in facilitating the transition efficiently and effectively.

“To build a net zero future, we have to get this part right,” said a release from Engineers Australia, “so this event is a must-attend for engineers of every discipline and sector, including the energy, infrastructure, design, construction, transport, defence, education and government sectors.”

The program will commence with a speech from Queensland’s Director General, Mike Kaiser, Engineers Australia President, Dr Raj Aseervatham, and CEO Romilly Madew, which will then be followed by a keynote address from The Next Economy’s Head of Programs, Lizzie Webb, on building support and capacity for a just energy transition.

Program topics and highlights include the discussion of:

  • digital technologies and AI in the energy transformation,
  • how Australia can go above and beyond in the global race to net zero,
  • emerging technologies and how they support the energy transition,
  • the skills transition to clean energy,
  • Project and landowner approvals in renewable energy projects
  • Regional industrial transformation and decarbonisation in the heavy industry,
  • Systems design for energy transition, and
  • Transformation in the transport sector
