Liebherr is taking crane operator training into the digital age with the help of Tenstar Simulation, a Swedish tech company specialising in training simulators.
The two companies announced at Bauma 2025 that they’re deepening their partnership to develop a more advanced mobile crane simulator.
Originally launched in 2024, the simulator lets crane operators train in a virtual environment. This not only cuts training costs but also reduces accident risks and emissions, thanks to its electric-powered setup.
What’s new in the simulator?
The system currently focuses on Liebherr’s LTM 1060-3.1 crane model and includes new features like setting up the crane and attaching/detaching the hook block. It uses three screens, a motion-enabled seat, a master switch, and VR goggles to deliver a fully immersive training experience. Plus, it’s available in 25 languages with built-in tutorials covering all the key functions like lifting, turning, and telescoping.
Liebherr says interest in the simulator surged at Bauma 2025, with multiple customers placing orders on the spot. “Customers were amazed at how far the technology has come,” said Julian Rapp, Liebherr’s Product Manager. The simulator is already being shipped globally.
Freddy Lund, CEO of Tenstar Simulation, says the goal is to create a complete virtual “crane world” that includes different models from Liebherr and beyond. Both companies say this is just the beginning of a long-term collaboration.
