ABA Crane Hire in the UK has refreshed its fleet with two new Grove GMK4100L-2 all terrain cranes, replacing earlier generation 100-tonne Grove models.
The company, based in the Midlands, praised the new counterweight system on the latest generation machines and the strong aftermarket support from Manitowoc’s UK team.
“The new ballast configuration is much easier to load and transport. Our operators are giving great feedback already,” said Adrian Baggott, director of ABA Crane Hire. “We know the 100 t capacity, 4-axle class from Grove well, so it made sense to update to the latest generation, and we’re really pleased with the performance so far. We also appreciate the customer support we receive from the Manitowoc team in the UK.”
One of the new cranes was immediately put to work on a 12-week water treatment plant project in Oswestry, while the other is busy lifting machinery as part of a factory relocation.
The redesigned counterweight system features a modular configuration, allowing operators to adjust ballast to suit job needs and transport rules. This reduces setup time, improves flexibility, and requires fewer transport vehicles – a big advantage on tight or busy sites.
“We plan to use these two Grove GMK4100L-2 on a variety of projects. Anything from lifting a pack of trusses at a big radius to complex project work in oil refineries and factories. We even do conservation work, lifting various animals like rhinos and elephants into their new homes!” Baggott said.
Founded in Bloxwich in 1982, ABA Crane Hire now employs around 60 staff and works across the UK, providing lifting services for construction, industry, and specialist projects.
