Contract won to supply 16 waste to energy cranes

Small to medium businesses to benefit from $66B stimulus package

Clean technology operator Hitachi Zosen Inova has purchased 16 cranes for four new waste to energy plants in Moscow, Russia.

Konecranes won the contract to deliver the cranes to the new plants which are being built by Russian company Alternative Generation Company -1.

The four waste to energy plants will be built over the next three years with works already underway on the foundations for the first plant. It is part of Russia’s Green Tariff program to promote renewable energy, which was launched in 2017.

The new plants will help Moscow optimise its waste management by closing a number of landfill sites. They can process around 2.8 million tonnes of residual waste each year, generating up to 70 megawatts of electricity per plant. Part of the electricity will be used to run the plants and part will be used to supply power to around 1.5 million people in Moscow.

Konecranes will deliver two waste-to-energy cranes and two bottom ash cranes to each of the facilities. The suppliers have received a notice to proceed for the first plant.

The automated waste to energy cranes has a lifting capacity of up to 28 tons each and a span of 34 metres. When manual operation is required, the ash cranes are operated with two Remote Operating Stations located in the main control room as there is no pulpit room for the ash bunker.
