Two Liebherr LG1750 SX mobile cranes supplied by BMS Heavy Cranes have helped complete construction on two wind farm sites in Alajärvi, Finland.
Completing the work for Finnish energy company and independent power producer Ilmatar, the global heavy lifting specialist was contracted to help conduct a series of lifts across the Möksy and Louhukangas wind farms. Soon to be in operation, the wind farm project features a total of 36 wind turbines that reach a height of 135m at their hub and 210m at their tip.
In total, BMS Heavy Cranes was contracted to lift 36 nacelles and hubs, 108 blades, and erect 216 towers. In order to complete this task, BMS deployed two of its Liebherr LG1750 SX mobile cranes, widely acknowledged as a crane that thrives in wind farm work thanks to its high lifting capacities in minimum radii.
Featuring a maximum lifting capacity of 750 tonnes at a 7m radius, the LG1750 possesses a maximum hoisting height of 193m and a maximum operating radius of 136m. Combining the flexibility and power offered by a crawler crane with the roadability of a mobile crane, the Liebherr LG1750 combines the best features of the lattice boom structure on the LR1750 crawler crane with an eight-axle chassis. Featuring speed-dependent rear-axle steering, the lattice boom mobile crane thrives not only in wind farm construction, but also industrial construction and infrastructure work.

Providing the 750-tonne mobile crane with an extra boost is the SX boom system that provides a 30 per cent higher lifting capacity. Featuring lattice boom sections that are 0.5m wider than the traditional boom, the SX system is compounded by additional sections that are 6m wide and 14m long providing extra lifting power and stability.
The wind farm that BMS supplied the Liebherr LG1750 mobile cranes to is expected to be operational this year and will produce 216mW of power and were built in collaboration with Vestas, Omega Wind, and Ilmatar.
