Axel Johnson International expands in Australia with new lifting equipment acquisition

Axel Johnson International’s Lifting Solutions Group is expanding its rental services in Western Australia by acquiring Lifting Gear Hire & Sales (LGHS), a Perth-based company known for supplying specialist lifting and rigging equipment.

With this acquisition, the Lifting Solutions Group aims to improve its rental offering across industries like construction, mining, engineering, and offshore. LGHS supplies key equipment such as spreader beams, lifting beams, winches, chain blocks, and personnel cages – tools often needed for complex lifting tasks.

Claes Fredlund, the group’s Regional Director for the Asia-Pacific region, said the acquisition builds on its current rental business in Melbourne (Dynamic Rigging Hire).

“We see strong synergies between LGHS and our existing operations,” he said, noting that both companies share a commitment to innovation, efficiency, and sustainability.

LGHS has built its business on a circular model that focuses on refurbishing and reusing equipment rather than discarding it. This not only cuts waste but also supports Axel Johnson International’s wider environmental goals.

“By joining forces, we can further strengthen our service and ensure Western Australian businesses have access to top-quality lifting solutions,” said Damien Treverrow, Manager at LGHS.

Former owner Eric Spence also called the acquisition a “milestone” for the company and its customers.
This acquisition strengthens Axel Johnson International’s footprint in Western Australia and supports its strategy to grow its rental network, offering customers more flexibility and better access to lifting gear.

Lifting Solutions Group operates in 19 countries and offers a wide range of lifting products and services, including steel wire ropes, hoists, overhead cranes, and more. In Australia, the group already includes Certex Lifting, Stenhouse, Total Lifting & Rigging, and Dynamic Rigging Hire, serving sectors such as renewable energy, ports, manufacturing, offshore, and mining.
