Global heavy lifting and logistics specialist Sarens has helped construct one of the tallest bridges in the African continent.
Helping to the Al Hadarat Bridge construction in Cairo, Sarens completed two lifts across several weeks after being contracted by Arab Contractors to perform the operations.
The first lifts pertained to eleven 150-tonne steel beams that were 41 metres long. To complete the job, Sarens deployed its Demag CC4800 crane in SSL configuration using its 66-metre main boom in tandem with 270 tonnes of ‘Superlift’ counterweight, with the four-member team working for one week to perform the eleven picks.
In the second series of lifts, Sarens chose to use its CC2600H, using its 78-metre main boom for yet another confined, high lift. The same four team members installed 63 beams, each weighing 90 tonnes with a 53-metre length. Overall, the project took three weeks for the crew to take each beam from the trailer, slew the crane into position, and lift all the beams.
Each crane was chosen specifically for the task at hand. Taking possession of the crawler cranes after they’d completed neighbouring operations, the team at Sarens were required to carefully plan where they placed the cranes, as they were operating with a maximum of 15-centimetre clearance from its surroundings.
