Perth-based civil engineering company, NRW Contracting, has been named the preferred proponent of the design and construction of two new interchanges on Western Australia’s Reid Highway.
The $225 million Reid Highway and Interchanges project that has been split 50/50 by the WA and Federal Government will begin construction in the first half of 2024 and is scheduled to be completed by early 2026, according to a joint press release from the State and Federal Governments. The project will involve two new interchanges constructed to replace the signalised intersections at Altone Road and Drumpellier Drive/Daviot Road, while access ramps and roundabouts will also be constructed to maintain connectivity to and from the highway.
According to Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, Catherine King, Reid Highway represented a “vital” freight route across Perth’s northern suburbs, and the project would help deliver “shorter, safer, and more predictable” journey times. Additionally, following the recent opening of Tonkin Highway between Morley and Muchea, the new interchanges will further enhance the movement of heavy vehicles by removing signalised intersections on the strategic freight route.
“The Australian Government continues to work closely with the Western Australian Government,” she said, “to deliver critical road, rail and cycling infrastructure to improve safety and reduce congestion.”
NRW Contracting will be delivering the project under the guidance of Main Roads WA and the State Government.
Previously BGC Contracting, NRW Contracting is a wholly owned subsidiary of NRW Holdings Group, an Australian, publicly listed civil engineering, mining, energy and technologies company. The civil aspect of its business specialises in the delivery of civil construction, road and rail construction, and concrete installation projects.
