The cranes, ranging from the 100-tonne capacity rough terrains through to the 150-tonne mobile cranes, will be deployed in refineries, where ACT deploys most of its heavy haulage and cranage services. The Saudi company first purchased from the German manufacturer back in 1987 and now operates over 190 Liebherr cranes, representative of its faith in Liebherr’s “fast and reliable service”, according to CEO ACT Group, Mohammed Hassan Al Naimi, that ensures downtimes are minimised.
“With Liebherr cranes, we can be sure of generating a good return on our investment,” he said. “That is, of course, important to us.”
ACT’s order, placed in December 2023, consists of three LRT 1100-2.1 rough-terrain cranes, seven LTM 1120-4.1 all-terrain cranes, and eight LTM 1150-5.3 all-terrain cranes. Liebherr’s LTM 1120-4.1 is the most powerful four-axle crane on the market, while also possessing the longest boom in its class. The LTM 1150-5.3, on the other hand, was selected by ACT because of its taxi-crane capabilities, making the machine economical and quick to deploy, according to Al Naimi.
“The LRT rough terrain cranes convinced us with their simplicity. They are self-explanatory and at the same time very safe to use,” he said. “An important factor for us (with the LTM1150-5.3) is the longer, 66m telescopic boom compared to the LTM 1160-5.2. The 150-tonne crane is the perfect addition to our fleet.”
ACT employs close to over 1000 people and operates a fleet of around 250 cranes. Headquartered in Dubai, Riyadh, Dammam and Yanbu, the company’s focus is on crane rental and operations in refinery maintenance and decommissioning.
